What will I need?
A container that can be sealed, like an envelope, a small metal tin, a mason jar, or even a shoebox.
Various small items, notes, or memorabilia that hold significance to you.
A safe place to hide your time capsule.
Steps:
Set a time for 3 - 15 minutes.
Begin by collecting items that are representative of who you are at present. These could include photographs, small trinkets, a letter to your future self, or items that reflect the current popular culture.
Once you've gathered these items, place them in your chosen container. Next, find a secure spot to hide your time capsule, where you'll be able to locate it in the future.
After you've sealed your time capsule and hidden it away, make a note or set a reminder for when you wish to reopen it.

Tips, Guidance, Inspiration, and Science:
Want to keep going?
Turn it into an annual tradition!
Involve your friends, family or work team. Each person can create their own time capsule and you can all enjoy the surprise of opening them together in the future. Or, you can create a group capsule.
Help! I’m stuck!
Think about what's important to you right now. These could be hobbies, passions, or favorite items and can serve as inspiration for what to include in your time capsule.
In your letter to your future self, express your current feelings, hopes, and dreams.
Remember, this isn't just about physical items. You could also include a list of your favorite songs, current events, or even a snapshot of a website.
What’s the science?
Reflecting on our current circumstances and envisioning our future selves can foster empathy towards our future selves and lead to improved decision-making. (Hershfield, et al., 2011)
