Today Donald Trump sort of admitted to playing a role in inflating the value of his assets to get favorable deal terms. And while we don’t usually look to His Orangeness as a source of creative inspiration, exaggeration is undeniably a great way to have creative fun. So here are a few inflationary Messier Moments for the week:
Tall Tales: Write a story, or make it up out loud with a friend or family, where each detail gets inflated as much as possible. “There once was a king…of the solar system, no, the galaxy!…”
Caricature Even if You Can’t Draw: Choose something to draw and exaggerate one or more of its features. For example, go crazy on drawing a squirrel’s tail. Or make the knot on a tree take over the frame.
Two Lists: In one column, make a list of 10-20 things you own, describing them simply. In another column, aggrandize that thing. Have fun with it! For example, you could say you own a pen. In the other column, you could say you have a tool that some people say, may very well, in the right conditions, be critical to writing the song that will bring peace to the world.
We’re always eager to hear how it’s going! Don’t be shy, let us know at hello@messier.co.
P.S. One of the coolest things about Messier is our team of Science Advisors. They study a stunning diversity of topics related to creativity and we've started to ask them to introduce their perspectives as blog posts on our site.
