This Week's Messier Moments: December 12
You are a creation, creating about the light of creation. Whoah.
Hanukkah is well underway! Also known as the “festival of lights”, this Jewish holiday offers ample opportunities to create and reflect. Here are a few light-themed Messier Moments for the week:
Particle Man: Write a story, poem or comic from the perspective of a photon. Maybe it’s on its journey from the Sun to Earth and wondering how things will be when it reaches its destination.
Northern Light: Draw or paint something inspired by light — it could be the aurora borealis (a.k.a. Northern Lights), a sunset, or a candle.
Latke Variations: One of the beauties of Hanukkah is making latkes, fried in oil as a shout out to the holiday’s story. I don’t know why we don’t make them more often, they are so delicious. This year we mixed it up by adding Tapatio hot sauce. Try making latkes but change just one or two things for a twist. Our science advisor James Kaufman considers this kind of thing to be classic “mini C” creativity.
We’re always eager to hear how it’s going! Don’t be shy, let us know at hello@messier.co.
P.S. We need your help to build the Messier app! We’re doing our first-ever fundraise this Thursday. Please join us by registering here, and invite anyone who might be interested in investing. Please register asap and circulate this email widely!
