What will I need?
A camera or smartphone
A notebook and pen (optional)
Steps:
Take a moment to observe the sky. What colors, patterns, and shapes do you see?
Snap a photo of the sky.
If you can, repeat several times throughout the day, in the same or different locations. Take note of how the sky changes and capture another photo each time.

Want to keep going?
Try capturing the sky at the same time for a week to observe larger patterns.
Write or sketch your feelings and thoughts as you observe the sky.
Help! I'm stuck!
Don't worry about capturing a โperfectโ photo. This is about observation and appreciation.
Even if the sky seems plain or overcast, there's beauty in its subtleties.
What's the science?
Inspiration has always been central to artistic creativity. Chemi, T., Borup Jensen, J., & Hersted, L. (2015).
Standing on the shoulders of giants
This was suggested by Messier advisor and nature photographer (currently in Ecuador)ย Gunthar Hartwig.
"When you take a moment to observe, the world opens up. The sky alone tells a thousand tales." - Ansel Adams
Up there we see mountains, oceans, rainbows, and brilliant planets and stars. With Hubble and Webb we see art.
